We provide a meeting place for those with mild to moderate dementia and their carers, where people can share memories, meet new friends, enjoy a range of activities in a caring and supportive atmosphere – and have fun!
With others, we have helped to change the profile of dementia in the town, which is now officially dementia-friendly.
The work of the Memory Jar and its founder have inspired a ground-breaking project that is intended to change the whole approach to dementia provision in the Vale of Glamorgan and beyond.
We meet wice monthly (1st and 3rd Tuesdays) and welcome people living with dementia and their carers in Cowbridge and the Western Vale of Glamorgan.
The Memory Jar is currently involved in a major project involving Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, the three local medical practices, three universities, the Cardiff and Vale Memory Unit and a wide range of other statutory and voluntary agencies. The main aspiration of the project is to provide a coherent and comprehensive approach to dementia education, diagnosis and care for the local region, and to provide a model that can be replicated across Wales and further afield.
The whole development carries the name of the founder of the Memory Jar, who was herself diagnosed with Alzheimer’s nearly three years ago – it is called ‘Madeline’s Project’.
