An update from Memory Jar August 2020:
“We are OK, though finding the continuing lockdown a bit of a drag like everyone else.
Memory Jar is still closed, of course, and there are no clear signs yet of when we might reopen. Our folk are all missing it greatly, and some are finding the lockdown very difficult. We keep in touch with them all via the telephone network that Madeline set up even before everything else closed down. Each of our helpers has a contact list and they all let us know how things are going. This contact is very much appreciated.
Similarly, everyone was very pleased to have the notes we sent out along with the DEEP newsletters, all made possible by your generous support. They were particularly pleased with the latest newsletter, because of the Charlie Mackesy content. Madeline was given a copy of the book for Christmas by one of our sons, who wrote in the front: ‘This looks like an inspiring, moving, positive, peaceful book. Enjoy!’ How right he was. From then until lockdown Madeline read aloud a portion of the book at each session of Memory Jar. They love it, and it was always a high point. Several of them now have their own copies, as have both of our sons.
We may be too late, but if you still have a spare copy, one of our regulars who is having a particularly hard time. He normally has a number of carers, but his wife was so worried about anyone bringing the virus into the house that she has been caring for him on her own throughout the lockdown. Madeline talks to her regularly, and she, like others, also phones to check that we’re OK.”
