Damian Murphy is one of the facilitators for York Minds and Voices
Minds and Voices have produced their own Dementia Strategy for York.
Damian writes to the group, but it is a loud and clear message to everybody out there!
You can read the strategy here: THE YORK Minds And Voices DEMENTIA Strategy
Great work everyone at Minds and Voices!
On fire indeed.
A brilliant idea to get on and make our own strategy.
Our freedom, flexibility and the power of shared experiences and discussions over our 6 years as a group have made it all possible.
I know the local council want to produce a strategy and have started mentioning meetings, terms of reference, consultations and a hope to have something in May. They’d be fools not to use this to ensure the voice and experience of people living with dementia and their supporters is at the heart and start of anything that ensues.
In the meantime this is a document that could be shared far and wide as it is drawn from not only your experiences but those across the DEEP network and will no doubt resonate with may of our friends across the country and beyond.
I think things like strategies and business plans usually only ever help show the way to the next turn in the road. This however, is such an accessible set of guiding principles, that organisations, people can come back to them again and again to tweak their own approaches as time and circumstances change!
I shall now get off my soap box
