The Pathfinders is a group of people living with a diagnosis of dementia in the Swale area.
We are a DEEP group, which means we are registered with the Dementia Engagement Empowerment Project (DEEP) Network and supported by KMPT staff.
The group aims to make Swale more dementia friendly, to reduce stigma around the dementias, and to raise awareness on how to live well with dementia. Pathfinders is not a social activities group, but we are a sociable bunch!
Examples of our work:
· Taking part in a 10k Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Society.
· Supporting the Living Well with Dementia course, which is a post-diagnostic course coordinated by Swale Community Mental Health Services for Older People.
· Raising awareness in students of the personal experiences of dementia by recording podcasts for the University of Stirling’s Masters Postgraduate Diploma.
· Inviting our local MP to join a meeting to discuss dementia awareness.
· Contacting our local borough council to try to make links around dementia-friendly communities
· Supporting the recruitment of staff at Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust as representatives of people living with dementia on interview panels
We meet once a month in Sittingbourne to discuss topics related to our aims and goals.
Potential new members are invited to first meet with one or more Pathfinders members to find out about our group.
