“I’m getting in touch with you in my capacity as Secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia to invite you to listen in to a one-off oral evidence session the group is holding on dementia, scams and fraud next Tuesday 24 January from 10.30-11.30am.
The session will be held on Zoom, and will be recorded and available for playback on the APPG’s website if you are unable to join on the day. Last year, the APPG was made aware of a number of news stories covering people living with dementia being targeted by online fraudsters, and a potential lack of protections in place with banks when people did fall victim to scams/fraud. This subject was also covered on today’s episode of Rip Off Britain Live. The oral evidence session will be used to gather evidence on this subject and constructively identify a short set of recommendations to address this potential lack of protection and the action that banks, building societies and financial regulators are taking and could take to safeguard people affected by dementia from scams and fraud.
The APPG’s Chair, Debbie Abrahams, will use the session to ask questions of the following representatives:
David Geale, Director of Retail Banking at the Financial Conduct Authority
Kate Fitzgerald, Head of Policy at the Payment Systems Regulator
Lily Parsey, Head of Projects, International Longevity Centre
Yvonne, person affected by dementia (father lived with dementia and fell victim to scams)
