We have received this question/dilemma from a University who work with people living with dementia.
“I am constantly asked for guidance from our team members and beyond for the rates for paying people for involvement. We’ve always used the NIHR involve guidance which changed earlier this year and now feels less clear
People are concerned about tax and any payments affecting benefits – probably rightly so but I’m worried its going to make it more complicated to pay people and will put people off getting involved, which I’m often told, people really enjoy – when it’s done right.
We want to get it right as I don’t want the time or effort of people with dementia and their families to seem any less important to mine or those I work with here at the University
Also important is how much might be paid for someone who is involved in writing training materials for care/hospital staff?
I know other universities are experiencing difficulties getting payment now and can’t even send vouchers. Also the person with dementia has to fill out an extremely complex form
