“As we come into winter and our face to face outside visits are becoming harder and harder to arrange we are looking at what else we can do to keep our members connecting with the outside world as much as possible.
We are now arranging taxis to collect our members who have good mobility and can get out of the house and bringing them to our hub for 2 hours to socialise whilst maintaining the 2 meter distance rule and wearing PPE when required.

“I took Christina to the Broomhouse Cafe again for lunch on Thursday 8th October. We took a contract taxi to the Hub and one back to Christina’s again. Christina is very agile, but her bad eyesight makes the taxi imperative. We both wear masks, and sit as far apart as possible in the taxi, in diagonally opposite corners. I have to be close to fasten her seatbelt (she cannot see to do this) but that takes a very short length of time.
Christina had vegetarian lasagne for lunch, with a small side salad, and she absolutely loved it. Afterwards, we did some quizzing from the new book. After a while, Donna, Care Assistant, arrived with Agnes, another member of the Beacon Club. Christina was delighted to see them, and whilst we remained at our own table, we were able to have a chat.
We had mugs of tea, and Donna produced some biscuits, which went down well.”
The other services I am working on at the moment is our new Space Age Connection service Space Age Connections Overview 1.docx I am waiting on funding which I was hoping to hear about at the end of September but it has been put back to the end of October so in the mean time I have started advertising for volunteers. My hope is that once I have around 10 I can start training so that when government guidelines allow we can start the new serviced and get some, one to one support for elderly people with dementia in the South West of Edinburgh.”
