Course notes
Course title: Understanding Dementia and Hearing: Training for NHS audiology professionals
Who is it for? Continued professional development for NHS Audiology clinicians who are working with adults living with dementia, or who are interested in developing services for adults living with dementia
Course objectives: By the end of the day, course participants will have a basic understanding of dementia and be able to apply that understanding to adapting NHS Audiology clinical practices appropriately
Course cost: £145 (£105 Earlybird rate before 23rd August 2019)

Course preparation: In preparation for the course, it is recommended that registrants attend an Alzheimer’s Society ‘Dementia Friends’ information session. It is also advised that registrants that have not attended past BSA or BAA conference talks on dementia and hearing loss, may watch the BSA Lunch and Learn e-lecture by the course lead: https://www.thebsa.org.uk/example-lunch-learn-seminar/
Course lead: Dr Sarah Bent, Principal Clinical Scientist, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, NHS Wales. Since first being called in to help a patient who could not recognise their new earmould as an earmould, Sarah Bent has been working to support people living with dementia and hearing loss in North Wales for many years. Through talks, conferences, recommendations and research, she has been striving to spread a need for understanding in the NHS audiology profession across the UK, and has a vision of a ‘dementia friendly’ audiology profession. In 2018, Sarah was awarded the Ruth Spencer award from the British Society of Audiology for developments for people living with dementia.
