This is a two-day workshop Monday 18th March 2019 & Tuesday 19th March 2019 09:30 to 16:30 Freedom Church, Chester City Mission, 6 Hunter St, Chester CH1 2AR
The Maria Montessori Institute will be holding a workshop on Montessori for Dementia and Ageing. The goal of the Montessori programme is to support people living with dementia by preparing an environment that enables them to care for themselves, others, and their community. This innovative approach can be adopted for individuals or groups as a philosophy of care and can be used at home as well as in residential care settings and hospitals. The workshop will be presented by Anne Kelly, a Montessori Dementia Consultant, and will focus on the Montessori for Ageing and Dementia programme criteria, as established by the Association Montessori Internationale. Participants will receive handouts and a certificate of completion from AMI. The Montessori approach enhances quality of life for people living with dementia by creating an environment in which they can succeed. Individuals are given roles, routines and activities tailored to their abilities, enabling them to be as independent as possible and have a meaningful place within their community, resulting in positive outcomes for both the older adult and those who care. The workshop is suited to carers, nurses, support workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, family members, volunteers and community support workers
